Book Review: The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware

Ok, so I was going to review The Punch Escrow, but I just wasn’t feeling science fiction-y. I’ll get back to it…. probably. For now, Here is another novel by Ruth Ware.

The woman in cabin 10 is decent. I liked the idea of a thriller on a ship in the vast eternity of the sea surrounding them. It was a good premise, and it sort of worked. The Woman in Cabin 10 is about a journalist named Laura “Lo” Blacklock and her trip on a luxury cruise ship called Aurora. Everything is going fine at first, until she thinks she sees a person get thrown overboard! Once again, It felt like Girl on the Train, only in the water. Although unlike Dark, Dark Wood, this book was harder to get into. It started off very slow. The plot was decent for a book set on a cruise liner with only 10 cabins. Ruth ware really made me feel claustrophobic and uncomfortable in some parts. I wasn’t into Lo’s character at first, but she eventually grew on me. The characters in this book weren’t completely deplorable like they were in Dark, Dark Wood. In fact, they were actually OK. You didn’t really sympathize with them, but there wasn’t anything horrible with them either. The good and the bad all balanced out for the most part. It was a quick read. It had a twists and turns, some of which were predictable. Ruth ware could have tied up some loose ends. Overall, it was about as good as Dark, Dark Wood.
